Welcome to YTF Community, a place to safely share in the challenges and joys of feeding our families. And make all of it easier! This is a weekly members post with timely advice and encouragement that I hope helps to cut through any of the pressure you are feeling from New Years pressure this month.

If your social media feed is anything like mine, it is filled with posts with carefully portioned containers in a spotless fridge that is somehow also arranged in rainbow order. And because I know that is both very compelling and very unrealistic, I wanted to share my general approach to planning meals to feed my kids and myself.

This is how I reduce my work, both physical and mental, in my own kitchen while keeping my food budget in mind…and also waste a lot less food.

I know that may sound like an impossible set of things to be able to do at once. And while I make no promises that any of this will change your life, I do think starting with a set of realistic, doable goals can help us feel like we’re making an actual difference in how our lives feel.

That said, I do know that each of us has a really different context as far as how much time, energy, interest, and money we have to put towards our meals. And I always make sure I try to acknowledge that reality. I do think that these approaches can be customized to fit any situation…because the entire point is to figure out what will actually make your life easier by paying attention to what works, what you enjoy…and what is absolutely a complete waste of time.
