I’m always looking for easy smoothie recipes for kids to make to share with my kids for snacks or to serve with meals. This combination is one of our new favorites—and I love how much fresh fruit is packed inside! There’s nothing fancy in this smoothie, and it’s incredibly straightforward to make.

I use cottage cheese in this smoothie to add creaminess and protein—without the need for protein powder. It’s also a great way to add a calcium-rich food if the kids need more calcium in their regular meals and snacks.

It blends up super creamy so you really won’t notice that it’s there, either in texture or in flavor.

I like to use whole milk cottage cheese (sometimes called 4% fat) to make sure that this smoothie is satisfying and that the kids are getting the healthy fats they need.

  • Banana: A very ripe banana will have the best flavor here.
  • Frozen peaches: Look for sliced frozen peaches in the freezer aisle of your supermarket.
  • Cottage cheese: I prefer whole milk cottage cheese.
  • Milk: I like to use nondairy milk in smoothies, but any will work.

TIP: You can use a fresh peach if you have it. Simply add a few ice cubes to make sure the smoothie is super cold and creamy.

  • 1 fresh medium orange (peeled)
  • 1/2 frozen banana (about ½ cup)
  • 1/2 cup frozen peach slices
  • 1/2 cup whole milk cottage cheese

Instructions

  • Add the orange to the blender, then top with the additional ingredients.
  • Blend, starting on low speed and working up to high until very smooth and creamy. Use the stick that came with your blender to help move the ingredients around if needed—at first it may seem like there's not enough liquid, but there will be as soon as the orange starts to be blended up. (If your blender doesn't have a stick, stop the blender a few times and move the ingredients around with a spoon.)
  • Serve immediately in a cup, in a bowl with a spoon, or in a reusable pouch.

    Would drained and rinsed canned peaches work for this if I added some ice cubes and/or used frozen banana?

  2. Kind of too thick for my kids and I. I enjoyed the flavor, next time I’d maybe try adding a little almond milk to thin it a little.
