Strawberry Popsicles

Whenever the weather warms up, or if we just need a fun snack, we love to have homemade strawberry popsicles. These frozen yogurt pops taste so darn good, but they’re just made with super simple ingredients.

They’re creamy and bright in flavor and you can mix them up in about 5 minutes.

Making strawberry popsicles to share with the kids is an easy way to offer nutritious foods in a fun format. I love to make my fruit popsicles with Greek yogurt since it adds both protein and a super creamy texture. Paired with the fresh strawberries and lemon, the frozen yogurt is naturally sweet and indulgent tasting.

This strawberry frozen yogurt popsicle mixture blends up to be pale pink, which is a fun color, and is rich in Vitamin C, protein, fiber, and probiotics.

Ingredients You Need

To make this strawberry popsicle recipe, you need the following ingredients on hand and ready to go.

ingredients in strawberry popsicles on counter.
  • Fresh or frozen strawberries: You can use either type of fruit in this strawberry popsicle recipe.
  • Honey (or maple syrup): You can add this to taste according to your preference and the sweetness of the berries.
  • Vanilla extract: This adds another flavor note.
  • Fresh lemon: This perks up all of the flavors, so a little goes a long way.
  • Plain whole milk Greek yogurt: This style of yogurt adds a lot of creaminess to yogurt popsicles.

TIP: You can use frozen strawberries if that’s all you have, though you may need to stop and start the blender a few times to get it blending.

Best Molds for Homemade Freezer Pops

When I make these yogurt popsicles for a crowd (which I often do for parties!), I use small plastic bathroom cups. When I make them for my girls, I use our favorite Zoku Classic Pop Molds. They release super easily and seem to be very durable. We also have these mini ones which are a great size for baby popsicles and for younger toddlers.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I make it easy to get the popsicles out of the molds?

If the pops are sticking in the molds, run them under warm water for about 10-15 seconds or let them sit at room temperature for a few minutes. They should then come right out.

What if I don’t have reusable molds?

If you don’t have freezer pop molds to make strawberry yogurt popsicles, you can use small plastic or paper cups and popsicle sticks.

Can I make these dairy-free?

Sure! Just use a nondairy Greek style yogurt and they’ll work just the same way.

Can I make these freezer pops without a blender?

We like to blend the mixture so it’s nice and smooth and creamy, but you can totally just stir everything together. There will be little chunks of strawberries, but they’ll still taste great!

Do I need an ice cream machine for this homemade popsicle recipe?

You 100% don’t need an ice cream machine to make this yogurt popsicle recipe! You simply stir the ingredients together and spoon or pour it into molds. It sets up and is super creamy when you eat them. They taste best if you let them sit at room temperature for at least 5 minutes before storing so they soften up just softly.

How to Store

Once frozen, transfer strawberry popsicles to a freezer bag for up to 3 months.

Best Tips for Success

  • When you’re done blending the ingredients together, taste it for sweetness and if it doesn’t taste sweet enough, add a touch more honey or maple syrup. They will taste the same when frozen, so this is your best bet to ensure that they taste great.
  • Use whole milk yogurt if possible. This will enhance the creamy texture in the strawberry yogurt popsicles and will just taste better.
  • Use strawberries that taste good when you try them fresh. This can impact how much sweetener (if any!) you need so taste them as you go.
  • Run the molds or cups under warm water if needed to help them release easily.
  • Serve them outside so any drips or mess is less of an issue.
  • To make these as a baby popsicle, omit the honey and either skip added sweetener or use maple syrup.
  • To make these strawberry yogurt popsicles without a blender, dice the berries, stir everything together and add to popsicle molds. Freeze as directed.

Notes

  • Use frozen strawberries if that’s what you have. You may need to stop and start the blender a few times to get it going.
  • Stir together the ingredients instead of using the food processor for pops with bigger berry pieces.
  • When you’re done blending the ingredients together, taste it for sweetness and if it doesn’t taste sweet enough, add a touch more honey or maple syrup. They will taste the same when frozen, so this is your best bet to ensure that they taste great.
  • Use whole milk yogurt. This will enhance the creamy texture, offer the fats that your toddler’s brains need, and will just taste better.
  • Run the molds or cups under warm water if needed to help them release easily.
  • To make these for a baby, omit the honey and either skip added sweetener or use maple syrup.
  • To make without a blender, dice the berries, stir everything together and add to popsicle molds. Freeze as directed.
  • To make these 3-ounce plastic cups, place on a plate or a small baking dish. Add mixture, then place a popsicle stick into the center and surround with sliced strawberries, if desired. Freeze as directed. Snip the edge of the cup to peel it away.

Just made these! I imagine the popsicles will be great, but it’s too sweet if you drink the extra 🫠 just a word of caution. I wish I had tasted it before adding the honey. My strawberries were really sweet to begin with.

Has anyone tried them with dairy free substitutions like cashew yogurt? I made them for my daughter, however I have a dairy and soy allergy.

    1. Dairy free options are fine. It is creamier with a greek style nondairy yogurt, but otherwise, it works just fine. Enjoy

Love this! For storage do we take it out of the mold and store it in freezer bags? Can we just leave it in the mold or will that cause freezer burn?

Spectacular. I could have just drank the liquid as a strawberry drink rather than turning into yogurt pops. I thought my fruit was sweet enough (I included some frozen banana too) so I only added a tablespoon of maple syrup, but realized after they froze that some additional sweetener would have been better. I’ll put in closer to the amount in the recipe next time to see how it comes out. The lemon gives it a nice little kick to make them extra refreshing.

  5. Did anyone make these without lemon juice? I just don’t have a fresh lemon, but am wanting to try these ASAP!

    Thank you

These were a hit with my kids (5.5 and 3)! I added more maple syrup than the recipe recommended since the mix was too sour otherwise. Thank you for sharing this tasty and healthy recipe!

Amazing!! So healthy and yummy. My kids ate these strawberry pops up and they are now a staple in the freezer.

  9. Made these and they turned out super good. In the winter/off season could you use freeze dried strawberries in these?

    1. You can use frozen berries in the off season or you can use a blender to finely grind up freeze dried strawberries, then stir that into the yogurt.

These are amazing and a terrific recipe! When my kids are tired of smoothies, we do these fruit and yogurt popsicles for breakfast or a snack. A must try.
